Bunyan Wave Camp PDF Print E-mail
Written by Dave Boulter

The Winter Westerlies have made their first visit to Bunyan this week reminding us that there is more to gliding than hot summer thermals, there is the magic of silky smooth Mountain Wave and that our Wave Season is just around the corner.

At the 2011 camp I gave up counting how many Gold Heights were flown, but I know that 5 Diamond Heights were flown. We cannot guarantee the conditions but over the past 5 years our records show that the spring equinox period has provided reliable wave conditions. and we put the infrastructure is in place to provide you with your opportunity.

This year is also the Canberra Gliding Club's 50th Anniversary and we plan to make the 2012 Bunyan Wave Camp part of this special celebration year; please come and join us to enjoy The Wave, the comradely and the scenery of the snow caped NSW Highlands.

Rule No 1 - you have to be there

Dates and details are available on our web site - www.canberragliding.org

2012 Gliding Queensland Basic Airworthiness Course PDF Print E-mail

2012 Gliding Queensland   Basic Airworthiness Course to be held at the

Warwick Gliding Club, July 28th to AUG 4th

Expressions of interest are sought for the following courses:
1. Replacement of Components rating
2. Annual Inspector (Form 2) rating
3. Standard Repairs FRP (Minor) rating – Roger Bond Instructing

There will be limited positions available on all three courses so register without delay to avoid disappointment.

Who should attend?
The three courses are aimed at individuals who are interested in the care and maintenance of sailplanes. Any GFA member may attend regardless of experience level. Training will start from basic principles and progress up to advanced topics such as Life Extension Surveys. Clubs are strongly encouraged to nominate and sponsor interested individuals.

Course objectives:
The course is intended to train and qualify individuals in the maintenance and inspection of sailplanes.  At the end of the course your skills and aptitude will be assessed and you may be granted the ratings relevant to that course.

Course fees:
Course costs have yet to be finalized; however a cost structure of a club contribution and individual contribution per student is likely. The course is subsidized by Gliding Queensland. The course will be ‘live-in’ and all accommodation and meals will be included in the course fees as will all course materials and lecture notes. Clubs are strongly encouraged to support their members financially as without trained airworthiness people, clubs stop flying.

Aircraft:
Students will be working on a variety of aircraft. If you wish to bring your own aircraft (or a club aircraft) contact the course coordinator and discuss your requirements.  Progress towards Motor Glider endorsements may also be possible.

To register your interest or to seek further information, contact the course coordinator on the details below:

Lake Keepit Regatta Sat 19th - Sun 25th February 2012 PDF Print E-mail
Written by Dave Boulter

The 2012 Keepit Regatta is now just under a month away and entries are filling quickly. If you intend to participate then entry forms are on the club web site. Alternatively complete the attached entry form and send to me ASAP. Any questions give me a call on (02) 6687 1967 and I will do my best to assist.

This year we will revert to the original format which is based on a “team event” whereby the more experienced pilots will be paired with less experienced ones. The tasks will be set each day by Dave Shorter and only the slowest time of the paired pilots will be scored, thereby ensuring there is an incentive to help the less experienced pilot. It should be a lot of fun and an opportunity for experienced pilots to impart some of their knowledge and the less experienced ones to learn more about tasks and cross country flying. Jacques has kindly offered to do the scoring and utilise his new LKSC OLC web site.

Catering will be provided each evening with the welcome night on Saturday, and Sunday, Monday, Thursday and Friday dinners being prepared by Ann, Joy and Lou. Our guest chef from Sydney, Tustra will provide Mexican/Spanish cuisine on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings and the final dinner will be held at Bob and Jan Dirks home with the usual fabulous food and hospitality. The cost will be $20 each evening with main course, desert and coffee provided together with cheese, nibbles, dips etc. after gliding. To simplify the process and provide certainty of numbers we would like to collect the costs of 8 dinners of $160 at the commencement of the regatta. If there are partners and or friends accompanying pilots during the regatta then they are most welcome to join in for all meals.

Each day after Ian’s briefing there will be a presentation by various guest speakers covering a range of topics. A flat fee of $50 per tow to 2,000ft will apply, or less if you feel generous or lucky......

The club Junior, Jantar and Grob are also available for the Regatta so why not participate by arranging to use one of these?

I have also attached a list of entries to date, please advise me of any discrepancies so that I make the appropriate changes. I have also assigned pilots as either coach or pupil, however if you disagree then let me know.

Kind Regards,

David Bull
